Amble provides one-month sabbaticals in beautiful places across the USA. We partner with nonprofits, conservancies and small towns to provide affordable and unique lodging to top-notch creative professionals in exchange for their skills and expertise.
Our goal is to provide experiences for burned out creative professionals to recharge, gain new perspective and explore while making good design more accessible to more people, at a fraction of the cost.
A professional and personal passion and pursuit, working in the creative industry can be joyful but also exhausting.
Not many can afford to drop everything to backpack around Asia for 3-months. Others love their jobs and don't want to leave—they just need a break. Some fear repercussions for taking time away from their career. And many of us don't know how to ask their employers or themselves for permission. We give you permission.
Following countless coffee date conversations with friends and colleagues in the creative field – who were burned out, desperate to get away and day-dreaming of dropping it all to open juice-bars on tropical islands – we felt there has to be a more realistic, easy and affordable way to take time away.
In 2014, Ilyssa created her own sabbatical experience and traveled to a small town outside of Yosemite National Park in Mariposa, CA after burning out, herself. In exchange for a place to stay, Ilyssa not only created visual design work, she also provided strategy and facilitation skills to help a new bed & breakfast with big ambitions to host a workshop with community members, focused on ways they could better serve their town.
In 2015, Dave helped create and manage an artist residency exchange program in West Philadelphia called Neighborhood Time Exchange, which provides selected artists with studio space in exchange for contributing time to work with residents on their ideas that enhance the neighborhood.
In 2016, Dave and Ilyssa decided to put their lives on pause for 4-months to pursue their book Campfire Stories and travel to 6 National Parks for the research of book. During their travels, they met with many nonprofits and conservancies with a list of design needs but limited access to design and creative resources.
