spring 2019

Nestled amongst the blue oak woodland landscape and intoxicating spring wildflowers of the Sierra Mountain foothills, the Martin Wildlife Preserve is a tranquil, historic ranch that offers a remote and private 300-acres for your creative sabbatical in central California.

Follow the cattle paths for a peaceful hike through the property or a take a short stroll to one of the property’s nearby ponds, home to ducks and herons. Before you settle in to view an incredible sunset from the front porch, say hello to Titan, the resident horse ready to greet you after exploring nearby Preserves and local sites like the table mountains.

Our spring session will take place during a magical time of year in the Sierra Foothills as lush, vibrant and diverse wildflowers blanket the landscape. Following our 2018 pilot program in Yosemite National Park, this program will serve as our second and last pilot before expanding the program.

Community host

Sierra Foothill Conservancy

Amble's community hosts are our local partners and collaborators in need of creative services in our sabbatical destinations. These organizations are nonprofits and conservancies whose missions are to serve, protect, and enrich the communities and natural environment around them.

SFC is a nonprofit and land trust rooted in the local community with a mission to:

  • Protect wildlife & preserve native flora and historic rangelands

  • Provide educational and recreational opportunities for the community

  • Promote scientific study of foothill ecosystems

  • Maintain open space and beautiful vistas

From the snow-capped Sierra to the Central Valley floor, expansive landscapes, important habitats, and clean water resources are conserved and managed to ensure continuing public benefits. SFC supports a thriving land-based economy while promoting a conservation ethic that spans generations.

Accomodations

Our community host’s lodging options often provide an authentic window into living in a rural and rustic environment. We ensure these accommodations are safe, clean and comfortable, as well as stock them with the essentials you might expect from a bed and breakfast—such as beds, linens, and towels.

MARTIN WILDLIFE PRESERVE

Sierra Foothill Conservancy is offering our creatives full use of their private 4-bedroom, 3 bath ranch style home nestled amongst the Sierra Nevada foothills, home to the Tallman family dating back to 1934.

The home is brightly lit with windows overlooking the 300-acre Preserve, and includes a nicely appointed great room with standing wood stove fireplace, a fully equipped large kitchen, a reading room, and work space. This home has (2) master suites with private baths, and (2) additional bedrooms with a shared large bath.

This property also includes: heating & AC, WIFI and printers, on-site washer and dryer, and is compatible with most accessibility levels. This home is:

  • 1-Hour from Yosemite National Park

  • 2-Hours from Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park

  • Within 15-20 minutes of numerous SFC Preserves

  • Approximately 5 minutes from the Towns of Prather, Auberry & Tollhouse

  • Approximately 30 minutes from Fresno and Old Town, Clovis

Do be prepared for the unexpected, as surprises can arise living in a rural environment that require a sense of humor and a flexible, patient and optimistic mindset. Something’s not working or need help? The resident caretaker is SFC’s Rangeland Manager, who lives next door! Additionally, we will be available around the clock to help you with your accommodations and project work.

The grasslands, foothills, and forests between Yosemite and Kings Canyon National Parks provide land for farms and ranches, a home for native plants and wildlife, and a source of clean water.
